Another reason for stopping with the types of drawing I was making is thinking about the audience. Upon reflection, and I can't believe it took me so long to realise this, but really, only I could have ever understood those drawings because they were so heavily process based. Also, to make things harder, they were in response to a sense, so how is anyone meant to debunk that?
Anyway, after having quite a few chats with people in the studios about audience, it seems like taking this turn in my work is a good opportunity to flip that on its head, and put a focus on the audience perception, rather than my own.
I guess I was looking at providing 'ways in' for the audience, but it just never worked with drawing to the sense of touch. Maybe the FaceTime performance was the best in doing that, but by the time I'd finished that , I was pretty annoyed with creating those drawings, so thought it was best to just leave it.
I was given this piece of advice once, that when you don't understand the work anymore, you know you're finished........
