Combining drawing with sound...
Physical object
Object as mental phenomena
Drawing of object

... going back to this observation I made in the last term last year, it was the mental phenomena of the object that I found was the most important to focus on, which led me to focus on an intangible material to present my work: sound.

The connection I see between sound and drawing stems from my process of drawing, which is organised around phenomenological concepts. These help me form a method to think about the object I am drawing and re-present (not represent) it in a new way.

Basically, because there is an element of intangibility in the drawing process and nature of the material sound, this is one instance where I see the chance for a connection between the two...

Building on this, through the practice of deep listening, I found a similarity in terms of process with creating sound art and creating sense of touch drawings.

The similarity was the step-by-step phenomenological approach to experience something in a new way. Something I felt was relevant because of engaging senses I am not as familiar with (as visual). The process needs a framework/methodology to guide the thinking.

However, after critical reflection, I am becoming aware that with so much emphasis on process, I feel that the main idea of my work may be getting overcomplicated (something I still think I tend to do a little bit). Is it now about engaging other senses: touch and hearing? Is it about process, and if so, how do I portray that to viewers? Does this idea only make sense in my head?

Maybe it's a mix of all of the above, but my next steps from here should be about consolidating the ideas, deciding which are the most important features to focus on........
