Liverpool Biennial 2016

Art in a chinese supermarket... very Beyond the studio-esque...
-new context for engagement
-pushing the art to the public -> they don't have to make the effort to 'switch on', travel to and enter into a gallery space
-subtle -> could be missed -> fits into this contemporary notion of blurring the boundaries -> is it art/is it not art? -> who knows? -> who cares!? -> blurring definitions

Sometimes the silly art didn't seem all that silly. I think I'm starting to appreciate this 'humour in art' thing. Everyone can relate to humour, so it's a good way to get something across to the audience.
Thinking about curatorship... how meaning/context can gradually unfold... might have felt tricked originally: "where is the colourful light coming from?"... didn't even notice the light at first even though it's on the wall facing you as you walk in... and only noticed the source of the light on the way out. Very subtle artwork... In my own work, I try to think about curatorship because I usually display different elements/pieces together to try and convey my idea; I feel that displaying more than one thing can help to build an overall narrative of what I'm doing as it is quite complicated, and I don't want to give too much away. I guess I think of it like a jigsaw puzzle.

Aesthetics...
Dark room (an aesthetic feature I like) - so the use of light was very aesthetically pleasing throughout... subtle reflection of the projection onto the metal-surfaced section on the floor...
long tunnel room
projection at one end
intricate works illuminated on floor all along
industrial look/feel
relevance of spotlight
draws attention to certain spots
The spotlights were made using plastic pipe trimmings and a low power light - easy to make - easy to hang

Another artwork using a dark space and light

a bit more of some artistic humour
