For the performance element, I experimented with different set ups of microphones to see which suited the nature of the performance best. I also learnt about the way sounds are picked up with different types of micrphones. This was important becasue I wanted  the sound to come from onlt one direction, without any background noise disrupting the sounds I was making. The microphones I used were hyper corioid. Because of the subtle sounds I was making on the piano, e.g. lightly touching the strings, or the sustained blunted notes, I needed a set up that would capture these the effectively. I found that the XY set up of the condensed didn't pick up on the sustained notes as well, the sounds faded out much quicker, so I opted for the sapced set up.
